I believe Shred was added to being affected by the mangle debuff when they re-did all our talents, right before BC. Reason being that cat DPS was really lacking and this was a way to keep druids close to rogues, whose Lethality talent increases their backstab damage by 30%.

Well...Mangle will increase the damage of all bleed effects. No matter what class applies them.

As for Shred, you're reading the tooltip incorrectly. It means it will increase the damage of 'Shred'. There is no such thing as 'shred effect'.

Mangle is a nice damage spell that puts a nice debuff that can help your party/raid DPS so if you have...try to keep it up all the time.

i dont get it....
im lvl 53 now!
and the damage of shred stays the same if the target is under the effect of mangle or not...

im dealing with shred about 320-350 damage.
with mangle on the target it should be about 420-460 with the +30%, but it stays at the above damage.
This is a major difference and i dont know why i dont get it :-(

works perfectly on rip and rake!

You sure? My shred damage is SIGNIFICALLY higher when i mangle first. I've tripple-checked it. :)

(maybe it shows better at higher levels, i dunno)

Only the crit bonus damage. But rogues have a talent that gives them +30% critchance on backstab.. Blizz countered this by giving us a 42 energy backstab with mangle debuff-potential.

Yeah, my mistake. It is the Improved Backstab talent rogues have that gives them an additional 30% crit chance to their backstabs.

Shred does initial damage and then bleed damage.
Like Lacerate. Lacerate does a small initial damage and then bleed damage.
(is why Lacerate + Mangle + bleedable target = aggrotastic)

Not sure if it multiplies the intial damage on Shred. The tool tip does seem to indicate it. It definately multiplies the bleed damage part though.

lol I once had this rogue who would open with garrote when mangle was up....keeping aggro off him was rough.

What are you talking about? Shred does no bleed damage, neither initial nor over time. Shred does normal immediate damage (x% of normal damage + y). If the mangle debuff is on the target it deals 30% more damage.

Rake does initial bleed damage and bleed damage over time, and both are amplified by mangle (however little that is with rake doing not much damage in the first place).

So either you are not playing a druid, or have not been playing for long :)

actually, i've played a druid for 2 years but my first character was a rogue. have a tendency to use the rogue names for moves rather than the druid ones.

you are right. I got Rip confused with Shred.

So, the general conclusion is, that Mangle debuff increases
damage from shred?
