Hallo :>
Does anyone know the song "Chop Suey" by System of a Down? And if so, do you have any theories on what the song is about?

Ok now I can say I have no idea what this is about.
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little make up
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table
Here you go creating another fable
You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little make up
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
You wanted to
I don't think you trust
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
RAAHH!!
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
Here you go creating another fable
You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
You wanted to
I don't think you trust
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
Father! Father! Father! Father!
Father into your hands, I commend my spirit
Father into your hands
Why have you forsaken me
In your eyes forsaken me
In your thoughts forsaken me
In your heart forsaken me oh
Trust in my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

Running away from physical abuse? The hiding scars with make-up and running away (leaving keys).
Just a thought.....

Seeing the lyrics written out like that is a bit misleading.
This part is sung extremely fast, so much so that it's difficult to make out what the guy is saying:
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little make up
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table
Here you go creating another fable
You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little make up
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
You wanted to
This part is sung slowly, with greater emphasis:
I don't think you trust
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
And the climactic ending to the song places the most emphasis on these lyrics:
Father! Father! Father! Father!
Father into your hands, I commend my spirit
Father into your hands
Why have you forsaken me
In your eyes forsaken me
In your thoughts forsaken me
In your heart forsaken me oh
Trust in my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
I've come up with a number of theories, including self-abuse, domestic abuse, terrorism (from the perspective of the terrorist) and even suicide bombing. I can't find one that fits with everything, though..

Drug usage while writing the lyrics. :P

The Ending is quotes from Jesus on the cross. Could be mocking Him, at least in part

What's Jesus on the cross? I can guess what the subject matter is, but was it some play or something..?

Some fictional publication that people mistake for true fact.

hehe. Jesus, on the Cross. Not 'Jesus on the Cross'.
A musical? Can't picture it in my head, personally.
Perhaps similar to the end of 'The life of Brian' by Monty Python?
Anyhow... Biblical paraphrases according to my (faulty) memory, FWIW:
During the scourging or crucifixion, said something along the lines of "My Father, why have you forsaken me?"
And then at the moment of death, "into your hands, I commend my spirit."

It was while he was on the cross, and some of us believe this "fictional publication" so much to devote our lives to it. The next remark one of you will think to make is one about being weak minded or something like that. Even Evolution requires faith, no one alive today was there when it happened. Where one places there faith is what defines who they are.

Please don't let the views of one druid represent the views of the grove at large. I am atheist, and although I do not agree with your views, I defend your right to believe them.
Being religious in this day and age would be impossible for someone who is weak-minded, given the level of prejudice and general hostility towards religion. A weak-minded person would follow the crowd. Now without further ado, tell me what the damn song means :P

Maybe it means nothing. When I was in school I hated lit/history class in which had to "figure out" what the author was saying. Why the hell do authors do that? Why not just say it outright? So, just maybe, these authors are enlightened enough to write down what they mean. Which in this case it is just babble?
Just a thought....

Expressing a particular emotion or feeling or thought is sometimes best approached indirectly.
Singing "i am sad because im homeless" isn't as awesome as singing "underneath the bridge, top has sprung a leak"..

Guess that's why I prefer non-fiction and/or game manuals (sick I know) for most of my reading.

Well to add the Christian Perspective, You remove the Godness of Jesus, some might call him a Angle. He let himself die so that could be the self righteous suicide. This is just a guess. I have got nothing on the first part of the song
