Might be a noob question. I have never really studied the mechanics of the Resto druid too much, I just load everything up with HoTs and swiftmend / WG if it gets ugly.

Now that DoTs are going to have a crit chance, does that mean HoTs are too? Do Hots already?

I know that the "Bloom" of LB can crit, but I honestly can't remember seeing the baby ticks of LB or Rj or Rg critting.

Neither hots nor dots crit. It's how they want it to work I guess. I don't have a better reason for it. I know warlocks howl about it fairly often.

Each tick of a feral bleed DoTs can crit in 3.1 (if you take the primal gore talent), based on your crit rate when you applied the dot.

Warlock Dots can crit too in 3.1.

So does anyone know if HoTs specifically will be able to crit after the patch if DoTs can? Or know where to find out? I had a guildie ask me this the other day and told her no, but reading this I might have to eat my words.

I have not seen any mention of HoT crits in 3.1 write-ups. And I read several resto blogs so I'm sure I would have read about it by now.

FWIW, Rake bleeds no longer crit in 3.1. Just Rip and Lacerate, if you have primal gore.

I know I've seen some discussion of HoTs critting lately. The gist of it was that with this patch (or a recent one?) the code has been put in place so that HoTs have the potential to crit, but none of them have been given the ability to.

Yet.

the initial hit of regrowth can crit especially if you use the gylph and the bloom of life bloom can crit but its not a high percentage

Those are considered "direct heals", on the regrowth initial heal and the LB bloom, not hots. They've always been able to crit.
