Someone was asking why only cats are available as non-combative pets (um... there are more than cats available...), to which Kat (how fitting) replied:


For the initial implementation of non-combative pets, the team used ambient creatures that were already located in the world: i.e. No new art was necessary. They were placed in the following areas:


Cats: Elwynn Forest

Rabbits: Dun Morogh

Parrots: Booty Bay

Dragon Welpling: Rare item drop

The next patch will include the following additional pets:


Ground Hog: Thunder Bluff

Snake: Orgrimmar

Roach: The Undercity

Owl: Darnassus

I’ve spoken with the art team about adding monkeys, dogs and ferrets. We won’t see them for a little while since they are low priority, but the team has added them to the list!

I've got my parrot (from the deadmines actually, Scarlet Macaw), now I just need the lvl 34 pirate hat and a swashbuckler's shirt =D

I hear Chicken pets are acquired in 1k Needles, at least by horde. Not sure if this is bop or boe. I can't wait until I can make a Chicken-pet (Eng) eventually.

Hyacinth Macaws have been seen dropping off Bloodsails in SV. Iirc, Murloc Chef in Deadmines drops Siamese Cat. I have seen "White Kitten" but no idea where it is from, or if "cats" are random from Murloc Chef.

Yeah, I got my Macaw off a random pirate in SV. And my dragon whelp off the the prepatch elite whelps in badlands.

I should go pick up a chicken.

I believe the Emerald Dragonling pet is from the Emerald Dragonlings in SoS. The Black/Dark is ofc from the buggers in Badlands. The Crimson Whelpling (I got) was from the Crimson Whelps in Wetlands. I spent 12 hours non-stop slaughtering every single red, black, big and small dragon-kin I could find in that area before I found my pet.
