I'm on a PvE server mind you, so its not as bad as it could be on a PvP server. i've been trying to complete this quest for 2 days in Stonetalon Mts. My level 19 NE Druid got the quest in Ashenvale and its the 'On Guard in Stonetalon' quest. YOu have to find this woman and a gnome wizard at an overlook around Windshear Craig. It took me forever to find them, now that I know where they are at, I keep checking on them and they are always laying there dead becuse a Tauran or undead just killed them :/

And I can't speak to them since we are on opposite factions or /shout to the zone to at least leave them up long enough for me to finish the quest (or get the next step)

you could always just type out an emote to them, like /emote asks the mighty tauren and undead partner to leave these mobs in peace so i can finish my quest.

Custom emotes don't work cross faction either; they just look like gibberish to the other faction.

I have that quest. Still haven't found them and it is long since grey to me.

Have you tried to just wait for them to respawn? Instead of leaving and coming back? Maybe they won't kill them if they see you're actually there waiting for them to spawn.

I wait for about 30 minutes once and they didn't respawn. They must be on a 45 minute - 1 hour timer.

It was luck that I happened to find these 2 quest NPCs anyway. I was heading out of windshear craig to the crossroad where going right will take you to stonetalon peak or left will take you somewhere I haven't visited yet. I happened to look up and see this tauren killing something up on a plateau. I couldn't see what he was killing but I could see the back of him and his animations looked like he was in combat. I ran up there to see what was going on and there my 2 quest NPCs sat... dead. I've went back at least 3, maybe even 4 times now and they are either in the process of being killed, dead on the ground, or not there at all.

Well normally attacking quest mobs makes you pvp. Grab a few of your buddies that need to finish the quest also and kill whoever tries to kill the mob.
