A friend wanted to get into WoW after hearing so much about it and I agreed to walk him through the first few levels to get a feel for the game.

The first step was actually finding a copy. We drove all over the city making 14 stops. I didn't relieze it would be so hard to find. We finally found a copy at Best Buy, because it was stashed in a very odd spot. In our little adventure we ran into 3 other people also looking for WoW, and the employee at Game Stop said "I wish we had a copy... for me."

I just kind of assumed that everyone that didn't get it for christmas went out and bought it and it was taking time to restock. Then I saw this (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=712233&s=new&tmp=1#new) thread over on the WoW forums. That kind of confirms that our adventure wasn't just a fluke.

I don't know the full details of the situation obviously, but from the outside it looks to me like Blizzard should be on the phone with MySuperServers getting more machines to handle the load.

Have you had trouble finding a copy in your area?

WoW Oversold, just to be bluntly honest. No offical numbers yet, it's rumored WoW has more open accounts then EQ and EQ2 combined.

Blizzard did say afew days after the release, they will not print anymore copies of the game till, they have enough servers to handle more load. They have been adding and adding and adding. Only so many you can bring online at a time. They also have to deal with the ones that was overloaded since day one.

The last count I took on my server (Hellscream) I had 4k toons. And this are only the ones I've counted. Who knows what the true number is.

On release day the store I got my copies from, sold out in 2 hours. They havn't got it back in since.

I picked up WoW the day it was released (I actually traded my Gamecube in for it), and shortly thereafter started to hear about its phenomenal sales. I'm not terribly surprised to hear that it's now become rather scarce.

Although, the last time I visited the local Apple Store, I saw it on the shelves in ample supply.

Wow I bought mine the day after Thanksgiving (25% off) during the madness 5AM sales and there were still copies there the next day.

I just figured they anticipated the massive demand and made tons of copies, I guess not.

That Collector's Edition Sobe gave away is probably $$$.

Blizzard was anticipating high. I believe Blizzard was estimating 300 or 500k on release. It's blown up to fast, it damn near (or more than) doubled their estimates, which they thought was high!

:D I just look at all my online buddies who bought EQ2 and just can't help but say...

It's good to be soooo right!

I got the very last Collector's Edition at the local CompUSA (had'em hold it over the phone, and had lots of envious stares as I walked out with it) on release day. My roommate played on my 10-day and liked it well enough to buy it as well, we had no problem finding a copy back then. When I went this last weekend to Best Buy they still had (normal) copies on the shelves.

I got my copy by luck. I was shopping for xmas gifts and walked in to and EB. I didn't see it on the shelves so I asked. they had one copy left. The guy who worked there was going to buy it but I got it first :)

My buddy is still looking for it.....

I did think it was funny that Warcraft 3, Warcraft 3 Collectors Edition, and Frozen Throne have all shown up and were at full price while we were looking for WoW.

I can't find a copy anywhere. I had to order it from Amazon. I may get it by Feb. 1st.

Good luck finding a copy. They've stopped production of it so they can catch up to the demand from their end (ie; servers). Blizzard doesn't estimate sending out more copies until Spring.

Well a few days ago there was at least 30 copys on the shelf here. If i was to drive about an hour or so south they would prolly have some on the shelf there as well.

It was not a really big seller where I live then again software normally does not sale well since the store gets in in months after release and everyone has already ordered it over the internet.

Even thou I do not play WoW i been thinking of grabing a few copys and see how well they go on ebay.

I decided to pick up a copy last week after hearing good things and getting bored of EQ2...last copy in my city. I've played it all weekend and love it!

I buy it anywhere I see it. I live in a medium sized city in Ontario, Canada, and I only ever see 2 - 3 copies in maybe 1/10 stores I go into.

Whenever I see one, I buy it. I give them to friends who can't find it in the US or Canada (or France... or Holland... lol).
