Well, Blizzard has posted (again on the EU site first) a PvP write-up detailing varios aspects of WoW's PvP System.

This is our final in-depth look at the upcoming player-versus-player systems planned for World of Warcraft, and it deals with the new Honor System and Rewards. When these systems are deployed, there will be many more incentives for players to fight each other than just the thrill of the kill. And honorable PvP players will receive just rewards for fighting players that are of appropriate levels. We're in the midst of testing these systems, but there is already a lot that we can share with you.

As we have mentioned before, when you kill other players or aggressive PvP-enabled non-player characters (NPCs) in your level range, you will receive an honorable kill. All your honorable kills for a week are then calculated to give you an honor score for that week, which then translates into an honor ranking. This honor ranking carries with it titles and material rewards, and eventually, officer status and other perks.

Read the rest over here (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/pvp/pvp-article-part2.html).

I have to say, I can't wait until this is fully implemented, it sounds like a very interesting dynamic for the game.

I like the idea, with some major flaws/exceptions.
In fact I think the Flaws are going to ruin the implementation to the point I think WOW is starting to emulate the worse timesinks/problems of everquest.

1) Why Limit the number of players of each rank, compared to just making a total needed to reach the rank.

--- this game while competitive, is also meant for a casual person to be able to play.
Can you imagine the burn-out/cancelled subscriptions of people who can't play 4+ hours a night when they realize they are PERMANTLY BEHIND and can never realistically catch up unless players quit.

--- Speaking of which, I feel sorry for people who buy WOW a year+ from now.
They will never ever be able to catch up to the older players and forever locked out of ranks.

2) The idea of losing ranks, and with lost ranks being unable to keep your gear is flatly horribly repulsive.

--- sorry don't take a week off to go on vacation, you might lose your rank and gear.
Think about that, its transforming a game from "playing to get ahead" to "forced to play to stay even" Can you imagine if in Everquest AA points degraded? Same concept and problem here.

--- Ruins the choice in the game. Think about it, choose to XP, or PVP. if you xp, your falling behind, and losing ranks to others. Worst still from a guild/raid perspective. Raid Molten Core? Thats 30-40 people not able to PVP and falling behind those people PVPing

All in all, I think this is going to BOMB terribly, and be the worst move in history of MMORPHS. Setting up a system that "locks out people by a percentage" AND "forces them to play to stay where they are" is STUPID BEYOND BELIEF

much more realistic, is to just set up minimum honor points needed for a rank. And not to care how many are what rank. If a Hard Core PVPer hits marshall in 1 month, and a Casually in a year. At least they both can move up, and experience the game the way they choose.

the ranks are determined based on the PVP information for the week, not the entire lifetime of your character, they just keep the stats from the lifetime of your character, so there will be no problem "catching up"

That pretty much negates all your problem points :)

Hmmm, thats not what I got out of it:

"Because we will recalculate all ranks weekly, players can move up or down in rankings based on activity or inactivity. We will not reset players' points each week, so players don't start at zero and on equal footing each time we recalculate honor scores, but rankings will start to shift if a player begins to engage in more quality PvP action or begins to withdraw from PvP play."

IE, if you do the same pvp all the time at the same skill level you won't shift in rankings much. If you decrease your pvp you will slip in rankings. IE, it *IS* a system of degrading rewards. The worst part is, the rewards you already earned, like buying your epic pvp mount will NO LONGER be useable if you slip from the rank you could buy it at.

So for example, Lets say I attain and keep rank 11 for the pvp mount from the systems release all the way until September fighting tooth and nail and doing lots of pvp. But then I go on vacation to Japan for 3 weeks(which is what I'm doing, hehe), when I get back I will probably have slipped at LEAST 1 rank to those that kept fighting tooth and nail for position and be unable to use my mount.

I'm all for shifting ranks, but losing the ability to use things you have already purchased makes this system useless to me. It removes one of the best things from WoW which is the ability to play it casually. Even with raiding and the like right now I never feel like I "have" to log in. I take plenty of time out for other things. This would no longer be the case. "Omg I better log in or I might lose my ranking!"

Losing the ability to use the items would be a negative for me no question. I am looking forward to the battlegrounds though, should be great fun.
