Grave over on the official forums posted a walkthrough to get your WildHeart boots solo!

I figure a lot of you out there are casual players, who really can't get the time together to form an LBRS group as it seems most pick ups going to Scholo or Strat, so because of that combined with the crappy drop rate on wildheart boots I'd like to supply ya'll with a quick guide to soloing mother smolderweb.

First of all to get to her with relative ease, catform sneak down the first bridge in LBRS, drop off to the right side, land on a small rock for 100ish damage or hit the ground for 1000ish. Nothing paths through here so go ahead and unstealth and heal up.

Sneak through the firebrand orcs until you get to the spider portion of LBRS. Sneak up the ramp hugging the left side of the wall (if you hug right you might be fine but mother sees you), time it right and sneak past the spiderlings then continue following the wall until you walk past mother smolderweb, you should see an empty corner to pull her to. This is a safe spot, nothing will wander into this spot.

Once you're buffed up and ready to go (DO NOT BUFF WITH THORNS) Cast Regrowth and Rejuv on yourself (if you desire) then body pull mother to the corner (be mindful of the one wanderer.

The key to the mother fight is to never let yourself get into a bad position, this fight will take you a long time, a good 8-20 minutes depending on how resists go and your gear.

Fight mother (in bear form) until you reach roughly 50% of your health, then bear stun shift out and hibernate her. If you feel low on mana or you just need time to recoup, remember sleep can last up to 40s, so thats a good 30ish seconds of mana regen, also during that time you'll be getting your bearstun timer back.

Once you're comfortable with your bear stun being back up, and are satisfied with your mana level, break the sleep with starfire and moonfire (not necessary but speeds things up) then shift back into bearform and continue fighting her. Once 50% rolls around bash and repeat.

Doing so you will eventually kill her and have ample time to loot the corpse before the babies kill you.

OR

If you so desire when mother is extremely low health sleep her until you are comfortable you're at a point where you can handle 4 level 55 spiders on you. If you're going about it in this manner you may want to barkshield and finish her off with a moonfire or 2, and then sleep one of the spawned babies, then bear form fight.

--oh crap! stun missed!--

Yeah it happens, and it'll happen a lot when stun misses, use frenzied regeneration to push yourself back up to the point where you are comfortable with being able to survive a barrage of her attacks and still get off a hibernate

If you have nature's swiftness, don't bother using it on heals, its most useful if you keep it in your back pocket for an instant hibernate. However if you're backed into a corner and have to heal it won't be the end of the world.

So i'm sure some of you are saying well duh, and thanks for stating the obvious Grave, but I honestly wanted to help out some of the druids who feel that they need to keep taking groups down to smolderweb to get a shot at the boots.

Also don't forget if you really are having issues with this you can always entice people with the mother's milk quest! =p

Good luck to all who need their boots!

P.S.
My stats for this fight were roughly
3983 hps in druid form
5000 mana
8700 ac in bear form

I'm fairly confident people can do just fine with less ac and hps though.

Good luck!

OK, I did this today. Wow, talk about a rush. I had only been to LBRS once, and we wiped before we got to mama spider. So, let's just say I was clueless on how to get there. But I found a nice map of LBRS (http://worldofwarcraft.gameamp.com/game_map/game_map/93.php), and got to her without too much trouble. Never aggroed a thing in there, although there is one spot sneaking by the firebrand orcs where one of em senses you, but doesn't aggro. All three times I snuck in it happened. Anywho, here is what I did:

Took me three tries to kill her with (caster/bear):

4900 MANA
3053 HPs / 4293 HPs
2755 AC / 8342 AC

First attempt she killed me right away. Second time got her to about 50%. Third time I took everything I learned from the first two attempts and whittled her down, but got the crappy green gauntlets. Nothing original in my strategy, but here's what I did:

Buff up fully, (I used a lot of quality potions, 300 alchemist)
Regrowth and Rejuv, then bearform and proximity pull
Enrage and mauled her til I got down to 50%
Stun, shift to caster and hibernate
Heal up (heavy mageweave bandage)
Hibernate her until full mana/stun refresh

Regen, Rejuv, Starfire, Moonfire, Bear
Enrage and mauled her til I got down to 50%
Stun, shift to caster and hibernate
Heal up (heavy mageweave bandage)
Hibernate her until full mana/stun refresh

etc.

After a resisted stun I use Nature's Swiftness, and then Hibernate til it's refreshed just to be safe. Only once in bear form did I use Frenzied Regen; she had beat me down fast that round and I wanted a cushion before trying to stun/shift. Used Innervate twice too, but was never below 50% mana, was more of a time-saver thing.

Will keep at this til I get me boots :) I expect once Blizzard hears about this, they will make her immune to hibernate, so I recommend doing it soon if you plan on it.

EDIT: Went back tonight and did her again. Took 45 mins total round trip time from Ironforge. Dropped the same crappy green mail gaunts :(

EDIT 2: Two more runs today, two more mail gaunts, bah!

EDIT 3: Fourth time was the charm, Wildheart Booties for me!

Yeah, I imagine the hibernate thing will be fixed, and knowing Blizzard, they might not wait til a patch, but just do it as a hotfix...

Do you think i can solo her at lvl 57 :p ? maybe soon 58... But dont know the way around the cave/instance thing.. But if i did, would i have a chance killing her? I dont got leet gear or anything, but it aint bad either. Mostly sta/int/spi but got some sta/str too.

Sounds like something fun to do for the challenge if nothing else.

I'm still stinging from the boots. Went on a run last night and a pair dropped. The other druid rolled and got a 9. I thought certainly I can beat this.. haha, rolled a 5. Oh well, the shoulders dropped on the same raid a short time later and I am now the proud owner of a set of shoulder birds. :D

I doubt it. In the original thread over on the Blizzard forums, there are reports of level 58s doing it, but no one 57 posted that they were successful. Also, I don't think you can sneak all the way there at 57, There are a couple of spots where I am pretty sure you will get aggro.

got my boots after six tries tonight =)

I did not do the direbear/tank method, as I tend to get too nervous and mess up the timing. Instead I used the starfire/hibernate method exclusively. There is a small area of maneuverability by the spider, and you can pretty much time it so that you can get off a starfire and immediately thereafter a hibernate before Smolderweb gets to you. I started it out with a nature's swiftness hibernate to get the spider right where I wanted her to start the sequence (pulled her as far against the back wall as I could - which is the first pull spot - and then I'd head near the ledge right against the wall and start the casting - which is the second pull spot).

Starting trying this at 59 today. So far I'm 0-3 kill wise, first time was best but messed up below 50%. 2nd time I tried to be too fast and died, and third time a lag spike got me before I really got into it. Its fun to try! I might wait for 60 to try some more though, just having more mana should help a bit.
BTW was doing the starfire/hib way.

I was able todo it solo for fun...already had my boots from earlier BRS group

But I decided to take a druid friend down and see how dou would...I think its coded when she has more than 1 aggro on her..because I wasnt stunned at all solo, but with my druid friend, she would crystalize one of us for 5-6 seconds..was great fun fight

I'm pretty sure she stuns you while solo too; I seem to recall a little graphic flash that goes off over her eyes when she uses this proc. I think it has a fairly limited range though, and when doing nuke/sleep you might be out of range frequently.

Haven't got her yet, keep messing up and losing. My armor count, and I have nice gear, all upper level eagle, wildheart bracers, tressemane leggings, fancy hat, armor packs, is only just under 5000. The other posts here seem to have a huge amount more armor than I and perhaps that's the difference. I'll try more as I now have the gloves and kilt in my bank and need the set to exceed the specs of my current build. Where's Cenarius and his wand?? :-)

ukator
05-10-2005, 12:55 PM
Well I'm doing the starfire, hibernate, starfire, hibernate way. I figured out a series of three spots to pull her around, and not get agro from below or the sides.

i have a feral set of gear which is swapped in automatically by equipmanager; when i put all that gear on i have 5200+ hp/6700+ armor. if i was you, i'd look into getting some specifically feral gear, like the devilsaur set and warbear harness, as well as the band of the great tortoise and ring of protection, to make your yourself into an uber bear-tank because that spider hits like a truck.

also, being too lazy to check i can only guess that i waved my hand earlier, not a wand...feh, wands are for pure casters. i threaten casters with /doom.

Mazikeen
05-10-2005, 01:50 PM
I have a warbear set, and I'll play around with changing pieces around and see how it goes, I do run about 5100 hp in my current bear, just the armor lacking. Devilsaur is nutz on my server so I' doubt I'll be getting it anytime soon. Some slaghide gloves would be a huge plus though, maybe I can farm a pair of those.

Cenaurius
05-10-2005, 04:12 PM
i recommend doing the turtle escort quest in tanaris for a 120 ac ring, it's very easily done and sounds like it would help address your armor woes. i had heard the battle of darrowshire quest was bugged, so i'm not sure if it's doable, but if you are able to do that quest, definitely hop on it. ring of protection reward has 150 ac and 7? stam.

to get some devilsaur, i suggest you just go to un'goro and help a guildie who farms them get enough for your own set, i think they are a must have for druids in forms. you can also get any kind of leatherworker to make you a wicked leather headband, which adds to agi/stam, to increase armor and obviously hp.

the pvp sergeant's cape also rocks with a +70 armor enchant placed on it.

that's all i can think of offhand, hope it helps.

Mazikeen
05-10-2005, 05:07 PM
Yep, screwed that up, I escorted the turtle seems months ago, got rid of the ring :( I'll try to see if I can do it again, but I seriously doubt it.....

I am almost to the end of the darrowshire quests, but after the last patch, the blue books are floating up in the air above the graveyard and I can't complete the series to earn the other ring. That wouldn't be to bad, I lost the turtle ring, but I still have my old +50 armor owl ring from uldaman, that with the darrowshire ring would be better than none at all.

As for devilsaur, the actual AC for the items is just about equal to what I presently have;
leggings;
devilsaur: 148 AC, +12 stamina
tressermane; 148 AC, +12 stamina,

gloves:
devilsaur: 103 AC, +9 stamina
Slaghide: 207 AC, assorted adds on base, eagle would be fantastic :)
Adventures eagle: 100 AC, +14 stamina, +13 int.

Devilsaur would be great for offensive tanking, that doesn't seem to be my gig when I tank :) I just seem to be the beating board with a healer keeping me up as I do my best to hold all the aggro, so paying the exhorbant sum to get the set is out of reason for me. As for farming them, I have near all the leather needed, if I get the pattern I'll make them for myself, my server however seems to have a childish economy where there are few if any that will do anything for anyone at less than exhorbant costs.

Slaghide is the win here, with it's +100 armor over all other blue gloves, they are for bear tanking for certain, I hope to hook up with some groups and see what I can farm. I don't care what type I get as I'm only after the AC. Interesting research though, thanks, should have considered the long term before selling off my 120 AC ring. Now I have to farm out a warden staff I guess, shouldn't be to hard I hope as it seems to drop off mid 40 mobs and I can easily catch groups that will take me at that level on the condition they pass on the staff if it drops ;)

Honestly, I just really didn't think I'd ever be doing any tanking at end game, but enjoyably you can! Really adds to the pleasure of spending the time to level a druid. At times it can get monotonous fighting healing vision on upper level instances, think I ran the baron probably 8-10 times before I started to watch more of what was going on :) Getting invited on a stealth boss run is very exciting and I look forward to doing more of them, I've done well, 3 rogues and 2 druids did the entire boss run out of LBRS as my gear was better than the other druid I got to tank, we wiped once, but after that we had our bearings and proceeded to wipe out the rest. I want to gear up to get my maximum AC and HP as high as possible for this role, should be fun.

You probably can't do it again, but try submitting a GM ticket and explain the situation. They can do a limited number of item reimbursements for player error... might work, might not, but worth a try.

I did it at 58 last night without too much trouble. I died pretty quickly the first two times by agro-ing the little spiders once on each side. So the third time I just used my bones as a boundary to stay inside. Fight took about 35 minutes because I did it the starfire-hibernate way and wouldn't cast starfire till my mana was back at 97%. I've been all to lucky the past few days, cause they dropped the first time! I definately agree with Ukator, I mainly did it for the same reason.

Really need to give yourself space for the hib/starfire thing, but I guess I can do it now. There's still a good chance for her to interrupt, or the poison to interrupt a hibernate, or whatever.

Nothing but crappy greens for me in 3 kills so far. Probably 7 failures while I was figuring out the system or getting unlucky on stuns/interrupts.

if you bring a rogue or another druid it goes much more quickly with minimal chance of death due to mistakes. i recommend it to make multiple runs a breeze.

I got the pattern down, and was able to kill her the last 5-6 times without problem. Finally dropped the boots this morning -- probably 10-11 kills total.

Glad to be done with that, though it was kind of fun to do. I didn't realize how...purple the boots are though.

Has anyone tried this successfully since the 1.6 patch? When I attempted it tonight, every spider remotely close to the mother aggro'd along with her when I pulled from the corner.

This was my first attempt, though, so maybe I goofed something.

Hey fellow druids. I've pretty much just lurked the boards for the past couple months and let me say I've definetly found some useful information. Just have a few questions.
I've been doing this for the boots the past couple days with little to some difficulty depending on how things go. I just have to ask does anyone else have this much armor? I can't find anything else to buy that would increase it over like 1.8k in caster form and just barely over 5k in bear. Maybe my armor just sucks I've mostly went for int/spi/sta. My hp is around 3k and mana around 5.5k but I can't seem to get any armor increases. Anyone know of any easy to get items or such?
Also I did get all the spiders when I tried this today which was the first time in about half a dozen tries in the past several days. Thanks for any help.

getting the spiders aggro as well seems to be luck of the draw. There was a post lurking around here about ideal feral gear and where it comes from. When i first started doing mother smolderweb, i was in the same boat as you in my feral gear. I had a rogue guildmate come with me and had no issues. Now i have further upgraded my set and am sitting close to 8k fully buffed, not great, but much better off than i was before. Look for a feral gear thread here in this forum for ideas on good feral gear to try for.

I just tried this last night, I stood in the far corner requiring you to stealth past mother to get to. Then I starfired her and she came my way along with a half dozen of her other spiders. Not sure if this was changed in the latest patch or not. Anyway, I went back to do it again, and standing in the same place, I slowly moved toward her letting my presence cause her to aggro - I didn't attack her. When I got close enough, she aggro'd but none of her other spiders did. Then I hibernated her quickly. Then I started the starfire/hibernation rotation over and over again. It took forever, but I finally killed her - didn't drop the boots though.

Anyway, you can still aggro her without aggroing her spider friends, I just needed to start it off with a proximity aggro and not attacking her. This may be a patch change or not, I don't know since this was the first time I've tried it.

I may try again, just to see. I'm wearing my DM boots waterspout boots right now so I'm in no rush to get the wildheart ones till I get more set pieces.

i just did this yesterday without the spiders aggroing for a fellow druid. Its just bad luck. I had it happen to me a couple times when i was doing this for myself a couple months back. of course, i did it the melee way when i did it, so i always pulled with Farie Fire.
