I am new to WoW and love using the feral forms (I'm level 20 right now). I have heard the feral talent tree is weak for higher levels. My question is this: is it viable to attempt to specalize in feral combat or is it better to be a caster? Which area is the best in the long run- balance, restoration, or feral combat.

thank you

Feral is getting some improvements in the next patch or so (or so we think). I use feral to solo and have points into that tree. However the majority of my time is spent in healer mode. If your Horde with the lack of tanks there you might be able to get a rep as a solid tank going with the feral talents.
All can be done, just make sure when you get a pickup group that you are ready for what they need (i.e. healing or tanking).

I found at lower level having a resto' talent build would make no difference to whether I could keep a group alive. Without resto I could keep a good group alive, with resto I could not keep a bad group alive. Having realised this, I went for feral at the lower levels to help me solo.

At higher levels (level 50 now) I find resto talents are needed to keep up with the healing I need to do. However, I am usually the lowest level in the group I'm in so I don't find this too suprising.

My advice is don't be too concerned about the long run - pick the talents now that you want to use now - although respeccing may seem expensive, by the time you want to do it - you should find cash easier to come by.

The problem is game design. At higher levels, the only possible progression is mass grouping raiding and instances. That means all the druid can do is heal. In solo play, group play, or pre-mass group instancing, any build is totally fine, including (maybe even especially) feral.

But when there are 2-3 groups and *someone* has to play healer, a druid is going to have to heal.

If these stupid games could ever get out of the EQ mind lock that the endgame is only ever about mass group raiding, then maybe more options for alternate game styles will open up. That's not really the case now. If you want to do high level instances, you will just have to heal.

Thanks alot for the input. From everything you all have said plus looking around, basicly it doesn't matter what I do now because they are all viable and I am better off just coughing up the 1 gold when and if i need to redo talents.
