OK, so yesterday I was playing WoW on my friends account, (32 Warrior) and I challenged a lvl 9 druid to a duel, I won respectively, although, when he tried to go into Shadowmeld during the fight, I could still see him, so I /laughed and charged him, stunning him, then hit him with a critical heroic strike for 349 damage. Why could I see him? Also, althought the title of this thread denies any relation to this siotuation, I pvp'd a hunter(28) and I lost, simply for one reason though, he said he didnt want me to kill his pet? Why can you kill a pet in a duel? When you do, does he actually have to go find another one?

Edit: By PvP'd the hunter, I meant duel

Most likely you could see him because you were so much higher level. Stealth type effects are level based.

You could have killed his pet if you wanted to. If the pet dies they don't have to go and find another one. Hunter's can rez their pet but the pet loses happiness when they die which makes them less effective in combat. They regain happiness by being fed maybe he didn't have any food for it (that's the only reason I could think of).

This is why. Ability to see stealthed players is very much dependant on levels. I remember seeing a lvl 50 rogue ones when I was only low 20s during beta in Arathi. He was standing right next to me, went stealth and completely vanished off my screen!

Stealth in WoW, unlike EQI, is *true* stealth. It serious does depend on your level vs your opponent. It's very nice and extremely well done. Out of all the games I've played, WoW has done stealth the best.

Also, not only the level discrepency, but stealth is also based on positioning. Seeing someone stealthed in front of your character is MUCH easier than seeing someone stealthed behind you (using the different camera angles wont matter). Largely you saw him because of his level.

Just hibernate his pet next time then root him and stand in his deadspot and nuke.

His pet couldn't have damaged you if you were ice trapped. The trap would have broken. Besides, if you have shapeshifting, you can use that to break the trap.
Yes, hibernate the pet and/or root it.

I really need to test my stealth. At level 35, it seems inconsistent. It does not work for me in Warsong Gulch, maybe because the opposition always seems to be higher level. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. But, proximity definitely matters. The closer you are, the more likely the mob will detect you.

Level, proximity and angle are all factors in whether an NPC/PC will see you while in stealth.

If I read that right he was playing a Warrior, so no hibernate or shifting...

I too had wondered about the effectiveness of stealth. When ever I saw somebody stealth I could still see them, but of course I can only comment on the ones I saw

Also, I have always wondered how the rules of stealth worked. I know having shadowmeld gives some sort of bonus, as well as the improved prowl talent. So I guess I need to know what a druids base stealth gives, and what the bonuses amount too. Any clues? Or is there a good stealth guide out there somewhere?
