I'm level 31 right now. I solo a lot and my usual initial attack is:
cast Entangling Roots
cast Faerie Fire
cast Moonfire
cast Starfire until the roots break
cast Moonfire as mob approaches
engage in melee

I have looked at a lot of the posts about talents and nobody seems to be too hot on Improved Entangling Roots. It seems to me that it is a big help in keeping the mob rooted so I can blast it at a distance.

Am I missing something here? Is there a better way to solo mobs?

I will admit that I nearly always stay in human form so maybe I'm missing out on shifting during melee.

Arggh!

I'm with Stupid! [Insert finger pointing at self here.]

I just looked at the talent again and realized it is to prevent interruption of casting the spell not prevent breaking of root.

There's 3 talent points wasted! Grrrr.

Still would be interested in comments on my soloing technique.
Thanks!

If I choose to stay in NE form, I solo the mob by rooting and then i blast it with nature damage (mostly Wrath), avoiding the use of arcane damage as it breaks root. As root breaks, I reroot, and this is where Improved Entangling Roots rocks. I back off and finish mob. (More often, however, I start attack in NE form and turn into a grizzly when root breaks. That works great, because i regenerate some mana while finishing mob off).

When u havent got much mana left, attack next mob by casting Moonfire, then Faerie Fire, go bear-form and tank mob down.

A third possibility that I use, is to stealth in catform and get in a nice dps attack from behind. On level 36 (I think), you get a stun attack when prowling from behind. This way you can build up some combos and dot the mob. Pretty fast, tho, your health bar drops, so change form as fast as you can after having comboed/dotted mob.

I suggest you start shapechanging more. I find it fun, and I think that our real strength lies therein.

Every time damage is done to the mob it's a chance for root to break. Stop casting moonfire while the mob is rooted.

Nature's Reach and improved wrath are two key talents for root-nuke. If you like to stay in caster form for melee Omen of Clarity is a must-have.

I'd skip the roots entirely and spend more time in melee to reduce drinking time.
