It gives you the spell to cure poison. If you are a NE The related quest line ends in an offhand item that is +1 Int/Spi with a usable effect to regain some mana. The effect is on a long cooldown though. Its a life saver only and not really something to rely on. I'm not sure if its the same for Horde. If you are NE, the Tear offhand item available in Auberdine from the guy on the dock gives +5Int -3Spi which I found to be more useful and especially good when training your 1H Maces and Daggers.
