druids dont get parry, and i'm not sure if it helps druids dodge or not. In general, there isnt enough +defense leather equipment for it to be worth it. AC in general is better, at least thats what I have gathered from reading

yea...there isnt much +defense gear in leather to worry about it sadly and with the reducing of all the defense gear a few patches ago, it makes it even worse.

Most (all) defense leather gear I've seen is high level green stuff. Of course, you can put Core Armor Kits on leather (or cloth lol), and there are some nice rings, trinkets, neck items, and cloaks with it.

What defense does is help you by:
1. increasing number of misses of a mob
2. reducing number of crits and crushing blows by a mob
3. It's possible it aids mitigation (armor) by reducing top end critical/crushing hit damage, but I'm not sure.

It's benefit is solely to help reduce spike melee damage, making you easier to heal and thus stay alive longer. It has no effect on spells and magic (i.e. Fire, Arcane, etc) based damage.

+ defense seems to go along way imho. To think of it simply, every level we get 5 more defense for a total of 300 at lvl 60. So for every 5 def, we're the equivelent of a level higher.

Druids do have a hard time getting +def... but it's still very much worth it, particularly if you wanna tank level 62+ bosses. Crushing blows and crits are devestating and those damage spikes are what makes tanks dead. Pary and Block are nice bonuses for a warrior, but it's the CB's and Crits that make +def so important to anyone trying to tank.

In BG's I generally wear my Medallion of Grand Marshall Morris and swap out my Ironbark with my Warden Staff if I'm really taking a beating. I think it helps alot more then the 10 int/10 spirit I'd get from my caster neck (both necks have 8sta).

My def gear is the already mentioned Medallion (+10) Warden Staff (+10) Cloak of Warding (+5) and Demon's Blood trinket (+3)... I've never gotten the Slaghide Gaunts of Defense to drop and never even seen an At'ali Spaulders of any kind drop, let alone defense... but those are two more blue +defense items you might try for.

so, Rockwell, what would u prefer:

Back: 115AC, +17 sta

or

Back: 37AC, + 9 def

?

and do u know how to calculate the exact effects of defense?

I'm not Rock. . .but here's how the armor is going to work out on those in Dire Bear:

581 AC
and
187 AC

If I remember right, that is approximately 1% damage reduction against someone your level.

That's a tough call, a much easier call for me was the Cloak of Warding Vs. the Srgt. Cloak.

For the sake of bag space, I'd carry the pvp... but if your plan is to try and tank somthing level 62+ you want the +9def... one crushing blow can mean a damage spike that your healer(s) can't overcome.

No I don't know the exact effects... altho' I do know it effects crushing/glancing blows, crit% and dodge precentage. I'm not sure if it effects pure 'misses'.
