I just recieved my initial mace training on my way through Ironforge towards westfall for my aquatic form. I am a lvl 17 NE Druid my question is should I spend the time lvling my maces or will staves take me through I am currently and planning for the most part to be feral spec seeing how I am primarily running solo as I dont have a lot of time to devote to the game 1.5-2 hrs if I am lucky a day.

so sorry to be long winded so should I work on maces ???

thanks ahead of time for the help

Weapon skills have zero effect on damage while in forms. Just find a weapon with good stats.

Level both. Maces tend to be more feral and staves tend to be more caster.

If you see your skill slacking don't worry. You can always go beat on low-level stuff for skill later.

I try to keep my weapon skills up as I level. Its a throwback to EQ where you couldn't raise weapon skill on grey opponents. Its just a good habit to have your skills as current as you can w/o sacrificing leveling speed too much. Generally as soon as I ding, I equip my best weapon and get 3 or 4 skill points, then I do the same thing in unarmed (never know when you'll be in disarmed in caster oom and a sliver away from killing but you can't hit b/c your unarmed skill is still at 1.) After that I cycle through my 2HM or Staff depending on which one wasn't my best at that level, then onto 1HM and dagger and get 5 points. After that I continue on. It only takes 5 minutes or so to the the first 3 or 4 points into the level. Its the last 1 or 2 that take a while to get. And if they are points below your current level they come quick.

Weapon skills have zero effect on damage while in forms.

I'm pretty sure they do effect your chance to hit a mob while in feral (so indirectly effect damage; fewer hits = less damage).

Repeated tests by multiple people have shown that weapon skill has no effect on cat/bear form chance to hit or damage. However if you end up in caster form without the mana to shift, weapon skill can determine if you end up running back to your corpse.
