View Full Forums : Gold Making Question: When Farming Is Out Of Need Not Greed (long)

Hello. As most of you can see, this is my first post here. I have been a "lurker" for A LONG time. I've played every class and every race (as many combos thereof as possible) in WoW. I am not mentioning this for any other reason than to state experience. I have come to love the Druid class more than all others due to sheer versatility. For people who are cool under pressure and decisive, the Druid is a powerful class (not saying I'm either).
I have come to a dead end as of late, the problem being that I can't seem to make money. I have always been a power leveler or a quick leveler in most MMORPGs I play, this sometimes leads to a lack of interest in farming a place for 12+ hours straight. I have resorted to doing so on my current character though. At level 55, I still have yet to purchase my level 54 skills, this is mostly due to a constant asking by my guild to change specs semi-frequently. I'm not an AH addict or even a layman... I'm actually what you'd call stingy. I resist the urge to do anything more than browse and sell. I have purchased items on a few occassions only if they were recipes that would help lower level guild members (I'm at 290 in Leather Working and 300 Skinning).
Am I the only one who is having a hard time making money as of late? I was doing ok up until this recent patch and could greatly use some suggestions. I have considered dropping leatherworking and picking up mining(or some other gathering profession)... but the thought of doing so seems inefficient and selfish of me. I'd appreciate any help that can be offered as to where the best places to make money are (as a resto/balance druid). Thank you for the time.

Right now, with the war effort going on, you could either get the supplies needed and turn them in and hope for a good item to sell, or just sell the raw materials and make money that way.
You could try Felwood, there is a camp of all 50-54 demons that have a chance to drop felcloth, which sells nice. Or get a partner and go take down devilsaurs, skin them and split the loot between the 2 of you. Just a couple of suggestions.

A couple of the high end skinners in our small guild do quite well with the devilsaur skinning. You would do even better if you had some of the devilsaur leather recipes.

With the war effort going on it is a great time to get a level 5 alt enchanter. The items you get for turning things in are not soulbound. I did this and have made some good cash off the armor that doesn't sell in the AH by disenchanting.

It's best to disenchant armor whose stats are not worth wearing. ex. +strength to cloth or +intellect to mail

Please don't list your raw materials for the war effort at the AH (unless you're the alliance on Wildhammer). It's kind of selfish and a form of exploitation. Peacebloom for 2g - hahahaha - What kind of citizen are you?

I don't think selling the supplies for the war effort is a bad thing. Some people couldn't care less if the gates get opened though, for various reasons. And I personally think 2g for peacebloom is ridiculous, but some people are willing to pay it, just so they dont have to go out and get it themselves and it's purely up to them if those 20 peacebloom are worth 2g.

You can profit however you want from the war effort... both above suggestions are fair game. I for one am glad the war effort came in and blew some life back into the Runecloth market and other lagging trade skill items. If you can sell wool for 3g a stack, more power to ya'

That said, I've made all my money on the war effort with my disenchanter... turn'n in items to help open AQ. I'm not at the point where I really need gold...

I would suggest avoiding respec'n again till your 60... I'm glad I never respec'ed level'n up (granted, pre1.8 it was easy to see resto was the way to go... 'trying feral' wasn't too tempting). Make use of the test server when it's brought back up to try out talents if your unsure yourself what you think is best.

Finally farm'n has a very negative conotation in WoW... when I hear people in org bemoan farmers all day... I wonder how they themselves get their cash and items. Everyone who plays this game farms from time to time... just most people like to have someone to blame for their failures/inadequacy's besides themselves.

I appreciate the suggesions and will take them into consideration.
I used to sell my extra leather whenever possible, due mostly to how much I had of it. I also used to sell armor kits, but that seemed more expensive to put up than what I made from doing it.
As for my talents, I actually prefer a mix of the three trees with most being in feral. I am in a small guild and usually do a lot of solo'ing. I know that end game, I'll be pigeon-holed into a healing role so I agree about not respecing. Oddly enough, I enjoy all the trees of the Druid class, thus being made to respec back and forth was not an issue to me.
Thank you again for the suggestions and the time, I'll attempt to capitalize on it (the suggestions).

I think that the farmers most people whine about are the China Farmers. Not to say that China is bad, but my thought is that if you can't speak english on an english server, you are probably what is referred to as a "china farmer," which is normally shortened to farmer. These are the people that get complained about as they are the ones that will keep on just killing even when they see you getting ganked. The ones that just stand there waiting for mobs to respawn when you are getting wailed on by 3 or 4 mobs. We all know the guys I'm talking about. . .those are the farmers people complain about.

I just dinged level 25. I'm a real casual player and only really STARTED playing a couple weeks ago because a lot of old and dear friends from EQ are on Dalaran playing WoW. I turned in some leather for the effort in IF. Tehn I started killing bears and had so much leather I couldn't store it any more so I started putting some in AH. Holy cow! hehehe (no pun intended... leather... cow...) I made like 25 gold in a VERY short span of time. I'm also supplying leather to guildmates (for free, naturally) and as long as I have more than I can use or give away, I'll pop some of it into AH and not feel the least bit guilty about it :)

Why would your guild care what spec you have pre-60? Even after 60, there aren't many times I've heard of someone being asked to change talent specs. We /laugh at mages dying in MC and BWL because they don't have ice block, and we get frustrated when only 2 / 10 priests have DS.

This sounds pretty bizarre to me.

Anyhow - once you hit 57 or 8 you can start in on the Silithus quests. You'll make some easy 30-50g doing them.

SM graveyard. One of the best money-makers in the game. Once you're 60 there's better ways.

I am almost afraid to put this out there as it might cut-off my gold supply if I had competition, but...

I am a carpet-bagger.

I have been exploiting the war effort for my own personal gain. On my server Horde is outnumbered by alliance 3-1, this seems to be common in many servers. Possibly as a result, the Horde side is way behind on the turn-ins. They need Peacebloom, but the Alliance doesn't.

Peacebloom is probably the cheapest herb in the game. It is selling in our alliance AH for 7-10s for stacks of 20. It is currently selling in the neutral AHs for 1g a stack. I have ben buying literally hundreds and carrying bags down to BB to put up at insane mark-ups (1000-1200%) and they are selling like hotcakes. I haven't seen many auctions of peacebloom from other players in the neutral AH since I started, so I suspect not a lot of people have noticed.

I am pulling in 10-12 g every 2-3 days or so (have to wait for Ally Ah to restock). Now with the linked AHs this is far simpler than it ever would have been in the past, just fly between SW and BB.

Please don't hate me. If it wasn't worth that much to the Horde guys they wouldn't be spending it right? I mean that is what supply and demand is all about.

Buy low sell high works for the stock market. I guess it's kind of a testament to the game that real work economics work as well as they do.

I don't hate you, the game is open ended and each person plays as they see fit within the rules given to them.

psssst: (In SW there's a roaming vendor that sells a kitten pet. Buy it and resell it for a quick few gold.)

Not worth your time in your 50's. Will finance much uberness in your teens.
