Anyone else have a tough time selecting an alt to stick with and level up?

Right now I have a 40 pally, 30 mage, and a 20 warlock and a couple other lower characters that arent worth mentioning. I find myself drawn to the pally because of their hybrid nature, which is something I have always enjoyed in my characters. In EQ I had a 60 druid and a 70 SK which I really loved. (wow pally dosent compare to that I know)

I guess the thing that makes me hesitate is all the bad press pallys get concerning their dps and role in the endgame. Also when I rip apart a mage with my druid makes me wonder if I really want to level one...hehe... along with all the times I see them in BG's running in, blowing all their mana and then die over and over. Warlock im just not sure about. I guess I made one, like alot of others, when they got buffed and started to kick ass in pvp at higher levels.

*sigh* I just cant decide.

I was thinking when it comes time for me to start an alt, I would try something as far from a druid as possible, probably hunter or warlock, as opposed to one of the roles I kind of play now.

Warlock. They are super fun to lvl, and are somewhat hybrid in nature b/c of their pets. Imp, VW, Succy and Felhunter all do different things, especially considering the build (demonology vs. SM/ruin).

Shadow Priests are super fun too. I found that I really liked being able to heal myself, and had somewhat of a hard time playing a class that couldnt heal itself, and thus for my first alt I made a shadow priest. Holy / disc priests are boring to play, but shadow is a blast. (no pun intended).

I can see hunter being a lot of fun also.

Do we know what clases are going to open to Blood Elves?

I'm really waiting for the expansion to start my horde alt.

Take the mage to 60 and hit all the 5-man and sub-20 raids.

Then you'll have better means to bring up whatever character you decide to be your main.

You'll also have a better understanding of what's to come.

I went with a Warrior. For me, I wanted to play a class that only had one job to do. Warriors just plain look fun in the higher levels, plus their itemization rocks (all the plate, swords, polearms, ect..). Warrior is fun, all I need to worry about is my own health and the health of the mob/person I'm fighting. Don't need to worry about any mana regen, weapon swapping according to my form, gear I am wearing according to what I MIGHT be doing (PvP,PvE). It was refreshing to only have to think about 1 thing rather than a bunch.

I have caught the alt bug a time or two. To me it's fun to just play all the classes and see what they can do. For the most part I stop playing alts at around level 30.

I have fun doing it and I have some friends who level alts with me from time to time. It's a blast.

Apart from the druid I am a big fan of the warlock. Of course in EQ I had a druid and a 70 necro. Its as close as I can get to the necro. Actually its sort of a magician/necro hybrid with the necro type spells and the magician type pets that have different strengths and weaknesses. At some time or another I will make a warlock alt and level it to at least 40. Only problem with them is the soul shard thing. So many people complain about it that I am just reluctant to get into it.

I understand the shard thing isn't as bad now that they have shard bags

the soul bag didnt help anything , you still need to kill mobs and stock up lots of shards to fight in pvp which can be annoying if there arnt any mobs around your lvl to kill.

Yeah, from my understanding it isn't so much the storage issue as it is the time invested farming them. Depending on your build you can go through a few to a lot. In BG's it can be really bad if you are always summoning your pet and using shards for that, then dying before you get a change to get more.

What I really cant understand is why dont they make the soul shards stackable? Hell make them stackable and put a max of 40 on them or something. The way it is now is kinda dumb.

At least they aren't summoned items, so they don't dissapear after logging. :)

I know what you mean about trying to find an alt to stick to. I love my druid, but I mainly run with my bf's rogue when he is playing....so I don't wanna out-level him too much since I tend to play more than he does. I have a warlock, mage, shaman and just started a rogue. That's on Dalaran server atleast. My first toon I ever made was a warlock....and I have to say it was a blast. I then started a mage (because my 'lock was gone since I got my own account and the 'lock was on my bf's). They can be lots of fun. I watch my friend play her's from time-to-time and so I had to make one and have fun in WSG with it. I started a rogue the other night to run with my friend who made a hunter for WSG. We wanna do lots of WSG together and since out other toons aren't in the ranges we can run together and we were bored we made new toons. Yea...I know I'm an alt addict....but I have fun designing my toons...haha!

I got to thinking about all my alts the other night and I figure it's a good thing I have these to play. I can learn more about these classes so I can kick arse in BG. I some of what they do from friends who have toons in those classes....but it's different when you actually play it and see for yourself what they have.
